WINE AWARDS

At Overhex we’re delighted with the superior quality of our 2015 vintage. Sourcing our grapes from choice vineyards in a variety of top regions all over the Cape Winelands has once again given us the advantage of selecting ‘the best of the best’!

– GERHARD VAN DER WATH (OWNER)

A VINTAGE LIKE NO OTHER

At OWI every vintage tells its own story and 2015 will be remembered for a number of exciting characteristics. Among them is the fact that the harvest started on 22 January and the last grapes were in on 9 April – the earliest harvest in years! According to Overhex general manager, Gert van Wyk, the early ripening can be attributed to a warm August which resulted in early bud break.

Another distinguishing feature of the 2015 vintage has been the smaller crops in the Coastal Region – about 10% down on the previous couple of years. “The harvest furthermore had its own challenges with red grapes ripening at the same time. This put some pressure on the cellar, but the winemaking team managed extremely well,” says Gert.

“All in all 2015 can be described as an exceptional vintage with beautiful healthy grapes showing good natural acidity and low pH,” Gert notes, adding that the wines all have fantastic flavour profiles and the red wines intense colour.

SES'FIKILE (WE HAVE ARRIVED) - AN EXCITING NEW BRAND IN OUR STABLE

Ses'fikile

Knowing where you’re heading and knowing when you get there, depends on knowing where you come from. The unique place that wine holds in South African history and culture makes it a perfect vehicle to celebrate our stories.

The beauty of South African women is symbolic of the beauty of our country. As a brand, Ses'fikile celebrates the heritage and history that shaped the pride, strength and dignity with which these women regard the world.

Each label is a microcosm of local culture and customs. The face, made up of a collage of the various South African ethnic groups, engages and challenges those who look at it and connects on an emotional level with the target market. It creates a shelf presence in a way that no other wine label does.

The range is made up of two wines, a Chenin Blanc Rousanne and a Shiraz Malbec.

Do not miss us at the London Trade and Wine Show (18th - 20th of May, Stall V60).
